Question #1:

How can I make my cats shed less?

Every friggin' day I brush my cats, dust, lintbrush my furniture, and Swiffervac. There's only two of them and it's a medium sized apartment. I'm still totally overrun by fur all the time. I hate it. It follows me everywhere. It's imbedded in my cat upholstery and my cats have never even been in my car. I went camping and was unable to do the above routine for like three days and I came back and I swear my couch looked a different color.

Tips?

Question #2:

Skoda Fabia vRS Upholstery?

I have a Fabia vRS and it is coming up to four years old.

Last year I asked about a lump which had formed in the dense foam of the driver’s seat. And this was starting to rub the grey material thin.
To be exact it is in the kidney support area anyhow.

I got an answer from one person who said that everybody had experienced bobbling in this area.
Twelve months later this crease has rubbed the material that thin that it is now a small hole in the material.

I know some may be thinking well it is four years old and things/materials don’t last forever!
And that may be the case but I hardly use the car, sometimes twice a week at the most three times a week.
It has just hit 27,000 miles in four years so the car is under the average mileage!

Even though the car is out of warranty and perhaps the upholstery may not have been covered, do I have any rights to complain to Skoda/Volkswagen?

I would take it up/enquire with the main dealer but past experiences with this group have led to me being ripped off by these people who are quite frankly are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

If I could approach Skoda/VW then I do need to be armed with as much info as poss!

Seriously, any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Many thanks

Has anyone ever tried to use their home carpet cleaner (Ex. Bissell) to clean their automobile upholstery(carpeting)? If so ,how did you go about doing this since these steam cleaners are so bulky? I know this is a crazy question but I'm trying to avoid shelling out 60 bucks for a professional job if I can do it myself.

Question #6:

I have a question regarding why a car won't start?

This is an '87 Toyota Camry LE my husband I bought. It isn't Classic for another two years, but it's got "Early American" plates. Just about everything mechanical that was necessary (or MIGHT be necessary was done to it: new, powerful battery, new starter, new little thing that has to do with starter (forgot what it's called, it's not near the engine,) new distributor cap, points and plugs (wires) a new alternator was our last resort because what else could it be? This is a beautiful car, he's fixed details on the body and shampooed the upholstery, (The seats were like new, you can tell nobody ever smoked in this car) and it was a one-owner car, always garaged, until we bought it about 4 months ago. He's had all the work done by a reputable mechanic several of his friends go to, and is not stupid about cars himself.

Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it, he won't ask. He did say a while ago they attached it to one of those "diagnostic" machines, I think it was before he got the alternator.

He is so happy to finally have a car, and it's one that people stop us and want to talk about. He's a painter. is looking for a pickup for himself, then I get the toyota and I am disabled, can't walk anywere, what a Godsend that would be, I haven't driven in 15 years!

Again, we'd really appreciate any ideas. Thanks, by the way, it doesn't even "turn over" or try to, nothing happens when you turn the key.
Hey, I got an ASE Certified Tech. Thanks for not making fun of me for sounding lik such a "girl." Now I just have get my husband to listen to me, (He thinks computers come from outer space or something. Thank God I can print it!

You were really helpful and hopefully he already owns something like that(or Napa might just let him borrow one, he knows them - you know how tradesmen help each other out. He walked to the store or someplace, I hope he'll try this and it works! I really appreciate you taking the time to be so helpful.

So, I know they must be in my carpets and upholstery. Now, if I flea bomb the house, and remove my cats, what will prevent the fleas that are currently on them from re-infesting my house? What is the best series of steps to take in order to take care of this problem once and for all?

Question #9:

HOW IS THIS ACCOUNTING PROBLEM DONE I HAD ACCT BUT FORGOT HOW TO DO THIS HELP!?

Tyler Smith has worked in an upholstery shop for 10 years. Last year, Tyler’s wages were $20,000. Lately, Tyler has been unhappy with the shop’s owner. Convinced that he could run an upholstery shop that did better work at a lower cost, Tyler decided to go into business for himself and opened CLASSIC UPHOLSTERY SHOP. He started the business by investing $20,000 of his own funds into the business, a sole proprietorship.

To get the business going, Tyler decided to invest heavily in advertising. He spent $6,000 on advertising aimed at consumers and another $2,000 on advertising aimed at getting work from interior decorators and interior design stores. Tyler also purchased industrial sewing machines costing $4,000 and other tools and equipment costing $3,000. He estimated that the sewing machines can be used for about 5 years before maintenance costs will be too high and the machines will need to be replaced. The other tools and equipment are not as durable and will have to be replaced in 3 years.

At the end of the first year of business, Tyler had received $80,000 in cash from customers for upholstery work. Tyler was owed another $2,500 from customers who are not required to pay cash, but are billed every 30 days.

A review of Tyler’s checkbook shows he paid the following expenses (in addition to those mentioned previously) during the first year of business:

Upholstery fabric

$40,000

Other supplies

10,000

Wages----part-time assistant

9,500

Rent

4,800

Insurance (2-year policy)

3,200

Utilities

2,500

Miscellaneous expenses

1,700

Tyler’s utility bill for the last month of the year has not arrived. He estimated that the bill will be approximately $320.

Tyler keeps some stock of upholstery fabric in popular colors on hand for customers who do not want to wait for special-order fabric to arrive. At the end of the year, about $14,000 of the fabric purchased during the year was in his store stock. In addition, $2,300 in supplies had not been used.

HOW MUCH PROFIT DID TYLER MAKE IN HIS FIRST YEAR OF BUSINESS? (Hint: Prepare an Income Statement!)

DO YOU THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO OPEN THE UPHOLSTERY SHOP, OR WOULD TYLER BE BETTER OFF WITH HIS OLD JOB?

Question #13:

How can I tell if my 98 Civic is an Ex or Si?

I just bought a 1998 Honda Civic and I have no clue what edition it is. It has a brand new paint job and the first previous owner removed all Honda emblems from the back, brand new upholstery and carpet on the inside so there are none of those little emblems anywhere on the inside. I only looked under the hood once and I don't remember what it said on it as I got distracted by the huge ass silver pipe coming off the big thing in the center(I know NOTHING about engines lol). It didn't have the factory manual so no luck there. I do know it has a 1.6L 4Cyl engine and 14" wheels, automatic transmission(that pooped out the other day). I'll post pics when I get it back tomorrow so you can hopefully tell me but any input you can give me to determine the edition of it is appreciated!

Question #16:

Can I just rip out the overhead upholstery in my car?

My car gets really humid inside because rain water leaks onto the passenger floorboard and the summer heat creates a sauna. I can mange that part. But this has caused the overhead upholstery adhesive to slowly dissolve and the overhead cloth sags pretty bad. I've tried all kinds of pins and new adhesives but they don't hold-up. It's an old car, so I'm not going to spend money to get it re-done. Why not just rip out all the overhead cloth?

Question #18:

How to clean a used mattress?

I bought a high end queen size pillow top mattress from a graduating medical student who was moving. This mattress has a body odor smell. I need to do something with this. How do I prepare this mattress for use? I'm thinking about renting a cleaning machine and cleaning it, then let it dry, use upholstery spray on it and then putting some sort of mattress cover on it. Can anybody give me more suggestions? The mattress is in great shape. It just smells like somebody else's body. For those that think this is creepy... please keep in mind that when you are staying at random hotels overnight, you are essentially sleeping on this same kind of mattress.

Question #19:

Value of Eastlake style chairs?

About a month ago I purchased 1 Eastlake style side chair at an antique store in Maine. The one I bought was pair of two matching side chairs. I only got one & I felt really sad & guilty for breaking up the pair that several weeks later I drove 4 hours to go back to Maine to get the other chair.(I am very dedicated to my antique furniture. I believe that the chairs were part of a larger parlor set. I believe the chairs are walnut, a common wood for Eastlake furniture. The chairs were not in the vest condition but I could not pass up these beautiful chairs that need a little love & care. The tag in the chairs was $45 for one $80 for the pair. I also believe that they are stuffed with horsehair. They upholstery is very worn on one is torn on the bottom and very worn, both chairs are a little dirty. The current color of the upholstery is black/brown (it is hard to tell because they are dirty. On the back cushion they have buttons & somewhat tufted backs. I would like to know what the value of a chair like this would be in the current condition & after redoing the upholstery? Also, what is the reason for the little wheels or castors on the front of my and many other eastlake sidechairs. Please answer my questions if you can, your help is greatly appreciated. I am just a person who loves antiques & history and wants to know more. Again, thank you!
