Question #3:

Connecting a Decorder /DVD / TV with a coaxial cable as an optional out?

I have just changed a bedroom TV to a digital one and a decoder from a free to view to a pay to view.
This is connected through a DVD recorder and works fine. Prior to this I had a coaxial connection from the normal coax input of the TV to a downstairs TV. (Although an input connection it seemed to work both ways.) However, I now can't tune in the downstairs TV to the signal and wondered if anyone could help. Unfortunately the distance is too great to consider any other type of connection.
It is currently set up as:Sat dish - decoder - Scart out to DVD Scart in. Scart out from DVD to TV. DVD Coaxial socket out lead from DVD to downstairs TV. There is a spare Scart on the decoder (to TV) and that isn't used. Is there another way of connecting or is there a device for converting a Scart signal to RF coaxial?
I do have a wireless Scart sender but unfortunately the receiving TV doesn't (it is an under kitchen unit) TV)
Thank you Silver Bullet. No Cox on the decoder unfortunately. I have heard of a modulator - might be too expensive though but will check it out.

Question #5:

Why would my lights flicker and my television explode after I unplugged my a/c?

I have had a window a/c unit in my room for weeks. I usually leave it running A couple of days ago I had the a/c and a lamp on at the same time and noticed the lamp was flickering, especially when the a/c unit would kick up a notch. This has happened with a variety of appliances in outlets all over the room. Tonight there was a thunderstorm and we lost power for less than a minute. I am not sure if that is relevant but several hours later I was watching television and the a/c tried to up the fan or something. It was obviously struggling for power and I was worried so I turned it off. About two minutes later my tv died with a large bang and sparks. The dvd player plugged into the same outlet stayed on but started smoking. I unplugged everything in the room. The overhead light won't stay on w/o flickering though and I can't run the ceiling fan while the light is on. There doesn't seem to be enough power for everything but I can't understand why the television died after I had turned off the a/c. I'm a college student with no knowledge of electricity but can anyone guess what might have caused this?

Question #6:

Problem with my landlord?

I rent a single house in CA with 1 year rental agreement, and I just move in for 5 weeks, yesterday my landlord told me to move out in 14 days, the reason is I ask him to repair the heating facilities and the electrical problem. The heater didn't work since first day I move in, the guy from GAS Company said that unit was too old and need repair. For the electrical problem, when I turn on the washer and TV or AC as the same time, the electric circuit will off. I told my landlord by phone and gave him the document from the GAS Company in person, it already past more than 30 days and he never make the repairs. Now, I want to move too, but what should I do to protect myself ?
Thanks for the answers, but my question is if my landlord wants terminate our rental agreement and ask me to move out in 14 days, what should I do to protect myself ?

Question #7:

Hdmi Control - Regza & Viera Do they work together?

I've got a Toshiba 42" TV with the Regza link to control other devices.
I also have a panasonic Home theater system with Viera link, when they are connected via HDMI, the tv recognises the player and puts the regza link icon next to the relevant port. However, i am unable to control the unit at all. When the player is turned on before the tv, i can control the volume with the tv remote. The player will not turn on with the tv though.

If i press "One Touch Play" on the player, the tv will then turn on. This tells me that there is a link there and it does function, but only basically.

Is there a way to make these work better together? So i can control everything with the one remote?

Question #8:

I must be a extreme tv junkie, tell me how many hours you watch tv a week?

About two weeks ago, I posted a question asking, yeah this same question but I am changing it around a bit.

I said I watched 10-15 hours based of the series I watch. I have cable here but never watch it, I just watch character driven shows, series and some non serial for some comedy to laugh.

Really I watch 4.5-6 hours a day 31.5 to 42 hours a week. I was called a tv junkie for watching 10-15 hours a week but the numbers above are much more accurate. I really don't consider this too bad, most of this time is spent when I wake up early in the morning, late a night and a couple hours throughout the day.

To me - Junkie would be how I spend the money and archive my Movies and TV shows, I will make backups and keep them on external 1.5-2TB drives, since they are so cheap, 150.00 at most for a good unit is not bad and holds enough data. so in that aspect I would consider that = junkie meaning = eccentric with a touch of OCD behavior. I just really enjoy being able to watch a show at my time, and being able to have all the shows, movies to choose from.

Please don't tell me to go get some air and go outside, beside everything I said above, I get outside and work on various hobbies I have, enjoy going to the health fitness center biking there to get the full experience and spend much more time on the internet then tv and yet fit work in too so I am happy with life but anyways I wanted to clear that up.

How many hours of tv do you watch a week, per day and how do you watch tv, just pick up the remote and randomly watch tv while doing it because you are bored or cause you enjoy doing it or do you pick shows you watch or want to watch.

Question #9:

help please what do you think of this situation?

Is he depressed or is he wise ? please help?
serious and honest comments only please. what do you think of him ?
to make this very long story short: he said he his ex gf committed suicide and he has been depressed for over 10 years. he since had 2 ex gf after that and then he met a new woman and married her. he never had a steady or stable job, he gambles and he is very moody. his positive side is he can be very motivated loving caring and funny. he is a clean freak and he is neat. he cleans, cooks, do laundry only when he is really in a good mood. in a day 10% of the time he is positive but 90% is negative. he'd worked part time and then would suddenly quit. in 4 years of marriage he only worked part time at almost 5 different places for at the most 10 months combined. he'd gamble most of his salary which is very little. he never really contributed financially. the wife works to financially make ends meet. the wife pays for the rent, utilities, food, car, gas insurance, maintenance, vacation, entertainment, everything. he practically stayed in the marriage for free. he is 90% unhappy depressed and attempted to commit suicide. he stays home 99% of the time watches tv sleeps eats and cleans a little. he never made effort to celebrate birthdays or wedding anniversaries. he has left home several times and stayed with friends for days and if he can no longer stay with friends he checks in at hospitals psychiatric unit and stayed for several days and when discharge he comes home and pretend nothing happens. he refused to follow up with doctors and refused to take meds. every time he stays with his friends or checks in at the hospital he claims to be depressed because of his past guilt that his ex gf died over 14 years ago. but when wife asks why he feels and acts that way he claims he really wants to gamble but no money. the wife is feeling betrayed, angry, fearful, exhausted and embarrassed (embarrassed that she married a guy who is irresponsible). again he tried to kill himself and was rushed to emergency now at mental unit and he seemed to be satisfied. he wants to be homeless and collect money. he says he loves his wife but if he comes home he will be the same person again. he is not sure if he can care for his wife or support his wife. should this marriage be over ? what do you think of him or her ? serious comments please. thank you
thank you.

Question #10:

Kind of a fear...kinda not...?

So when i was younger i've always wanted a dog...but the weird thing is...i'm kinda afraid of dogs. Not the smaller ones just the bigger ones like German Shepherds (one that i have always wanted because i just loved seeing the K-9 Units on tv). I never got a dog (specifically the GS) and now i have a deep fear of them. Yet at the same time i don't. Whenever i go to my cousins house (Spring Break, Summer, Thanksgiving) I see his German Shepherd whom i absolutely love and every time i play with him he gets a little "Rough" and i usually end up on the ground with my hands on my head out of pure fear (this is the part where you start laughing). Is there anyway i can help "Fix" this fear?

Question #11:

How do I find a helpful internet friend with a DVD recorder?

Comcast in NJ now has forced us to add a device called a DTA to our TV in order to get shows on cable. I called Panasonic & none of their units are fully compatible with this so that it is now impossible to record shows from TV and to put them on a DVD. I am looking for someone in a different state who doesn't have this DTA connected and who can help me out and record certain shows from TV that I want and put them on to a DVD. I would pay for all expenses involved. I don't want a DVR because it's too complicated to make a DVD from them.
TV GUY is wrong. A DVD recorder will absolutely not record shows from a TV if the DTA is connected. Both Panasonic & Comcast have confirmed this. It is the new reality!

Question #16:

Good Accent Color for Living Room Remodel?

I'm redecorating our living room, and need some good suggestions as to a good accent color I can use to tie the colors together. Some things are stationary and can't be changed at the moment b/c it's an apartment, and we're not allowed to... so I have to figure out how to best work with what I've got. Here goes:

The living room is a little small, 16'x13'. The walls are all white (can't change that) and the carpet is a light brown (like coffee w/milk, lol) (can't change that, either). My wall unit and end tables are a deep, rich espresso color, almost looks black. The loveseat is really pretty mix of brown/tan/olive, woven in a very tight, small pattern so that from a distance, the couch just looks medium brown. The other couch, the longest one, has a tan pattern on it that I'm looking to cover at some point w/a slipcover, just not sure what color would be best. Things on the wall are temporary right now, as I'm redoing that part, too.

So...
Wall 1 = TV wall unit
Wall 2 = Loveseat and two end tables on each side
Wall 3 = Large couch
Wall 4 = Window and the front door, no room for furniture there

What color would be best for an accent color? Should I use it on the curtains, or throw pillows, or accessories in the room - where is the best placement of the accent color you suggest?

Thanks for any help you can give. :)

Question #17:

electrical outlets in bedroom not working?

we have been using 2 window ac units this summer - 1 in our bedroom; 1 in our daughter's. one day our ac unit started acting weird - changing the temp setting on its own or not allowing you to change it all. then, one day after using both units, the outlets in our room stopped working. we have 3 outlets in our room on 3 separate walls. 1 on the wall with windows was used for ac. one on wall with bed has bedside lamps & alarm clocks and the other is on the wall opposite the bed & that's used for tv, cable box & cd player. none of these outlets will give power. we've tried resetting power & nothing changes. the weird thing is that the other day, one of the bedside lights was on when we went upstairs. we turned on the ac and everything went off again and we have been able to get power again.

Question #18:

If you had to purchase a clock radio what would it be?

Bose Wave Radio without the CD player, can have music streamed wirelessly using a $99 Apple Airport Express, instead of a $599 Soundlink that has a 60 foot performance area, compared to Apple Airport's 150 foot area performance area the Bose Radio is more effective in the home. The Bose Wave Radio can be hooked up as an excellent sounding tv speaker, it can sourced as an external speaker for a desktop computer, and it can have a 20 watt amplifier hooked to it and power external speakers in a superb fashion, hands down great clarity. Finally, it can be a good card playing party night dee jay radio with an added cd player connected to the main unit.
I am leaning towards the Cambridge Soundworks i765 to purchase. What would you get? Why? And, like the Bose what could it do either better or more. Thanks for your honest no holds barred opinions. lol.

Question #19:

Where can I get a cheap wall shelf to hold my dvd player under my mounted TV?

My room as mirrored furniture and white linens. I do have black in my accessories. I was hoping to get a silver one with glass shelves. Black or white will work too. I have a wall mount unit I bought a while ago that I want to use. Do you have a solution for my dvd player on the wall below the tv? Thanks!

Question #20:

Should we send last space shuttle into sun to gain public support?

NASA is asking Congress for permission and funding to schedule one additional shuttle mission for the purpose of sending large, heavy spare parts (like the ammonia-based cooling unit they just installed) to ISS. Reason is nobody has heavy lift capability any more. The days of the Saturn 5 rockets are way over, even the Russians can't boost heavy things these days, and the ISS will be in dire straights unless we stage replacements for inconvenient things before we lose all ability to do so.

My Son1of3 came up with a great idea. When the last shuttle docks and downloads, make the crew stay on ISS to come down in the usual Russian tin can and send the shuttle (it was its last mission anyway) into the sun to bring to public attention the realization that we need a real space program.

If we whip the last shuttle around earth and splash it into the sun, it will take about a month between leaving ISS and impact. That's a month of TV time to remind people of the Apollo Dream of space exploration, a month of Capt. Kirk repeats, a month to create a Popular Movement to kick NASA and Congress into actually doing something to get us a real space program.

What should the sound track be as the shuttle approaches the sun?
Something the size of a shuttle would have no effect on the sun.

Haven't you ever educated yourself about science by reading trashy sci-fi novels???!!!

Where you been?
@Warrior
No fuel required for trip because it's all downhill into the sun's huge gravity well. We could slingshot shuttle around earth and gain huge speed for free due to the assist from earth's gravity.
@Warrior
Several other shuttles will be in museums. There won't be a replacement for the shuttle program.
