Question #1:

Is the White House allowed to keep the oval office makeover a secret?

They are refusing to disclose the cost of the oval office's makeover with the new furniture, painting, carpet etc. Since we the taxpayers foot the bill, aren't we entitled to know how much it cost in this bad economy?

Question #2:

Should I borrow $12,000 for college this year?

I live on my own due to an abusive home situation. No connections to family nor relatives.
I am a college junior at 20 years old. I rent a room in a house with utilities, cable, high speed internet & furniture for $450 & cell phone bill is $55 a month.

I worked 2 jobs making about $670 a month so that left enough money for food, gas (50 a month), plus necessities while still saving at least $20 in savings.

They are cutting back at both jobs, I will only have one job. I can only earn about $400 a month! I am going to college full-time and would normally receive $ from scholarships/grants to buy textbooks, but I will not be receiving any. My Marketing classes are expensive as a junior, and so are my graphic design classes.

I plan to apply for scholarships through fastweb, I am not relying on it. In the mean time, I have subsidized students loans I can take out. I already have over $6,000 in the bank and will take out another $6G this year. I have the opportunity to go to school full-time and have my tuition covered, while working for up to $400 a month, or I can go to school full-time, do an unpaid internship while working an office job making $200 a month but living on loans.

The unpaid internship is something I am looking into because the company does EVERYTHING I am studying for, plus they are looking to hire someone, and possibly after graduation as long as they can test the student out in an unpaid internship to see if they are worthy. What should I do?

Question #5:

What is up with the new Oval Office?

Did you see the new Oval Office decorating, it looks like something you would put in a finished lower level for children to hang out in. Even though the furniture may have been expensive it looks so cheap and not something that should be put in the Oval Office, and if Obama is so in touch with "middle class" America why is he spending tax payer dollars on unnecessary redecorating when there is this recession and services are getting cut? The furniture just looks so out of place, it looks like what a new money person would buy, and I guess Obama is new money so it does not surprise me! The furniture just lacks class, very Nouveau Riche.
I could only imagine how much controversy would be caused if a Republican did this, but then again I highly doubt a Republican would have such Nouveau Riche style.
I know I could not believe how many pictures of the family were around, it was a bit odd in my opinion. Who did he find to do that decorating it looks just horrible, those couches are not what should be in the White House, well maybe in the rec-room where Malia and Sasha play, but that is for the children, and not a formal room.
Oh good I am glad tax payer dollars did not go to that decorating!
Oh and for Rosy Red Dress, I am sorry to inform you but I live in a very large home, which people would consider to be an estate and it is furnished in a very formal traditional style, you probably could not afford the furniture we have in one room honey so do not talk about where I live when you do not have a clue. Our Keeping Room(Family Room) is decorated better than the Oval Office, and that is the informal part of the house. Our Living Room looks like what should be in the Oval Office, it is a nice formal room. I am not against the family photos, but a good decorator would tell you not to use too many because it will take away from the rest of the decor. I guess you are probably not a member of the ASID, my parents worked with ASID designers when decorating the homes we have lived in. They have also worked with many others who are involved with high end expensive decorating. So do not tell me I do not know decorating when I live with high-end formal decorating everyday!

Question #6:

Do I have to pay my husband alimony?

We have been married for 7 years and he has not worked at all. In the beginning he wanted to start his own business so it I agreed to work and support our family (our son was 2) while he got to do his thing. I even paid for daycare while he did all his stuff, until I found out he cheated on me. I decided if he had to the time to cheat he had the time to take care of our son. A couple years later and that ventured failed and he moved on to the next one. I agreed once again and continued to support even getting a house cleaner to help with his bandwidth and he wanted to coach baseball on the side. Again he cheated so I cut the house cleaner. When that failed he moved on to the latest and we feel on financial hard times I begged for him to get a job and he refused. Lo and behold he cheated again and now our son is 10 and he leaves him alone in the afternoon to "run errands" <clear throat>. I am tired of begging him to get a job and tired of him cheating so I want out now. He is now telling me that I will have to continue to support him when we divorce because he has not worked and he supported us... oh lets see, I paid for the business equipment, office furniture, business line and everything else. He is capable of getting a job but now that he has been out of work for awhile he will have a hard time making ends meet so he says that I owe him and will have to come up with the rest by paying alimony. Is this true? Do the bastard get to continue to rake me across the coals? Well if so I guess I deserve it for not leaving earlier but I stayed until my son was old enough to be okay with the decision. I need to know if I will have to continue to support him. He is capable of working just chooses not to.
Thanks everyone good advice, yes stupid decision on my part but having my son's dad around was the biggest driving factor. I agree it is worth anything now to get out from under him. I do have proof of jobs that were offered to him by friends that he did not accept, I feel much better that at least I have a chance. Life lessons learned and because of all this I will emerge a wiser and stronger person.

Question #14:

What does my dream mean?

I'm hoping that people who've studied dreams, or know a little bit about them are going to answer this. Please no stupid responses.

The other night I had a dream that I was going to die. Now I've read that they can sometimes mean a life changing event. Whether that means job change, job loss, relationship change or loss, etc. But I haven't really heard my type of dream mentioned. It's still kind of freaking me out, and I'm hoping to get answers. Here was the dream:
I was sitting in a classroom with a bunch of people that I did not know. I don't really remember who was at the desk but I vividly remember God or Jesus. The people were passing around a box which contained peoples names. They told me that it contained the names of people that were going to die/not die this year. The names in RED meant that you were going to die this year, the names in GREEN meant that you were going to live. They were passing the box around and someone pulled out a name which they thought was me. My name is James, but the last name was different...it was GREEN. They were like you're safe James. I corrected him and told him that the last name wasn't mine. The box continued to go around, names were being pulled, I pulled out a name, it kept going around, then a girl that somehow knew me pulled my name. She looked at me and I'm so sorry, then showed me that it was RED. It said I was going to die this year on September 26th. That's all I remember.

Now to go back to what I've originally read about these types of dreams...this is what's happened to me in the past year. I just had a L5/S1 spinal fusion done in December of 09'. 6 screws and a spacer. I was engaged to be married just less than 3 weeks ago, we split up and she drained my checking account. She took all my furniture and left me with nothing. I moved back to Dallas, TX where I've been working for the past 2 1/2 years. I am trying to enlist into the Navy for the Navy Seals, but am having problems because of my back surgery. They don't know if they are going to let me go, for anything, let alone Seals. My dad is about to retire, and I'm about to quit my job. I work for the same company my dad does and he's my boss. I currently am living out of a hotel that my employer pays for (We all stay here). When the jobs done, i have to go back to Pittsburgh where the office is at. I have no apartment, no place to live (I lived with my ex), no furniture, just a car. I'm thinking about staying in Dallas or moving to South Carolina, but don't know what I'm doing for a job. So I don't know how this can be job related. Relationship related, I just met a girl down in Dallas who I've been hanging out with, but I am definitely not ready for a relationship..so I don't know how this can be relationship related.

ANY THOUGHTS? I'M LOST. Oh, September 26th is my moms birthday.

Question #15:

Do we have illegal aliens to thank for reintroducing bedbugs to the U.S.?

Bedbugs Aren't Just Back, They're Spreading
by NPR Staff
August 21, 2010
A bedbug enjoys the the ectoparasitic life.
August 21, 2010 Bedbugs are spreading.
At first, they appeared in places that you might expect: dense city centers such as New York, where officials may seek a bed bug czar, and San Francisco, which is trying landlord-education programs to keep the pests away.
But now, there are reports of bedbug infestations in homes and hotels from Ohio to Texas.
The stories are downright creepy. Exterminator James Self, who owns Ameritex Pest Control in Beaumont, Texas, says he was called out to one bedbug-riddled site that was like a scene from a horror movie.
"There were spots all over the walls, and I didn't know what that was," Self recalls. "I thought maybe it was some wallpaper decoration or something. But as I approached it, it was totally covered in bedbugs — more than I've ever seen. And that's the one where we had to rip up the carpet, throw away all the furniture. It was terrible."
'You Should Be Worried'
This business of feeding on other people... I think we all know some people like that do that, don’t we now? ...Maybe bedbugs aren’t so awfully different than somebody we know.
- Michael Raupp
Infestations like that are popping up across the country at an alarming frequency.
"You should be worried — very, very, very worried," says Michael Raupp, an entomologist at the University of Maryland who spoke with NPR's Audie Cornish about the bedbug resurgence. Raupp runs a website called "Bug of the Week," and this week's star is — you guessed it — the bedbug.
"They're really not just for bedrooms anymore," he warns. "They really have become widespread almost in any kind of establishment where people live and sleep, throughout both small and large cities."
Raupp says bedbugs go where the food is. And for these critters, the "food" is sleeping human beings.
"The problem is, as people go about their daily act of going to an office or going to a movie theater, for that matter, the probability that they are going to bring bedbugs with them increases," he says. "As people move about," Raupp says, "they are unwittingly bringing bedbugs with them."
There was a time in American history when bedbugs were just accepted as a part of life, he notes.
"Prior to the First World War, prior to the DDT era and the time of our synthetic/organic pesticides, bedbugs were commonplace," Raupp says. "That old rhyme, 'Goodnight, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite,' harkens to the colonial era in the U.S., when bedbugs were commonplace in taverns and inns."
It seems they could achieve that same ubiquity in the U.S. once again.
Borderless Bugs
"We're now in the era where people travel everywhere," Raupp says. "They just don't go to major cities like London or Paris. We have people going to second world countries and third world countries where, frankly, bedbugs are commonplace. And these guys are real troopers — they're hitchhikers and stowaways."
"Whenever we travel, there's always a possibility that we can bring bedbugs home with us," Raupp says. "And bedbugs don't discriminate. This is not a matter of poor sanitation or poor housekeeping or uncleanliness."
So how do people know if they've got a bedbug infestation? Raupp says your skin can tell you.
"One of the first symptoms that you'll see of a bedbug infestation is unusual bites," Raupp says. "And these bites aren't going to be on your ankles, where the mosquitoes usually bite you, or on your arms. These bites could be on your neck, they could be on your shoulders, they could be down on your legs somewhere. They could be anywhere on your body.
"These are gonna be small, itchy red welts — unusual bites," he adds, noting that people should call in professionals if they see these warning signs. "This is not one that you're going to want to tackle yourself," Raupp says.
In spite of the distress bedbugs bring, Raupp says he's still a fan.
"I find all bugs mysterious, wonderful. These ones I tend to find a little bit despicable. But they're fascinating in their own regard.
"This business of feeding on other people — the ectoparasitic life — I think we all know some people that do that, don't we now? And maybe bedbugs aren't so awfully different than somebody we know," he says. "So, there's a little bit of us in them, perhaps."
We can already thank illegals for Multi-drug-resistant-Tuberculosis, Whooping cough, Leprosy, and many other long lost diseases!

How many ways can they find to make us as third world as they are!?!?
@George L,

Yes, they have leper colonies in Arizona.
Lepers that crossed illegally in from Mexico.

The colonies are there to try to keep Leprocy from spreading.

Question #16:

How does this letter sound? To DPS regarding bond (2nd draft)?

This is the main letter to accompany my proof. I need to send this to the DPS to get my bond back through the mediation service. I've shortened it from 4 A4's to 2, is it still too long? Thanks.

To whom it may concern,
We moved into 1 Bryn Tegai on the 17th of November 2009. The employees at Bob Parrys are Einir Williams and Chris Thomas. The boss is Paul Cassidy.
On leaving the property we were informed that the living room carpet smelt of dogs. We were to be charged £100 for this to be cleaned. They did not smell of dogs. Please refer to enclosed witness letters.
We were also told we owed £75 for fixing the kitchen cupboard doors. This was reduced to £24 after many arguments. The first time we opened the cupboard door under the boiler it fell off. This door had been repaired quite poorly a few times. We examined the rest of the kitchen units and found them all to be in a similar state, all having had many repairs all of the same questionable quality. We went down to Bob Parry’s straight away to report the poor quality of the kitchen. We requested that someone from Bob Parry’s office come round and inspect it. We were assured that Chris Thomas would be round the following week to do so. Mr Thomas never came to do this, despite requesting this at least 5 more times in the following months. A couple of months into the tenancy, the door directly under the sink fell off in the same manner as the other door. Which we also reported. The 3 monthly inspection came round and Paul Cassidy came to inspect the property, as per the tenancy agreement. He saw the kitchen and told us not to worry about it as it was clearly worn and in a bad state of disrepair. We believe we should not be liable for repairs that existed prior to the start of our tenancy. Please refer to enclosed witness letters and photographs.
On leaving the property we were informed that the garden was overgrown. We were told this would cost £70 to rectify. We trimmed and tidied the garden a week before leaving, which was approximately the 6th November. The garden was still tidy when we left. The property was not inspected until 3 weeks afterwards, during which time there was plenty of sun and rain. Obviously given these conditions any garden would start to look unkempt. Please refer to witness letters and photographs.
We were also informed that the oven needed cleaning. This amazingly was to cost £50. We have photographs of the state of the oven when we moved in, if you refer to these you will see that it was pretty black. Sam tried to clean the years of grime from it before we left, unfortunately with not much success.
During the tenancy we accidentally broke the bathroom door whilst moving furniture. We agreed to replace this at a cost of £25, which we paid. A cost of an additional £25 for it’s fitting is due, which we agreed should be taken from the bond. The above figures add up to:

Cleaning of carpet - £100
Fixing cupboards - £75
Cutting grass - £70
Cleaning oven - £50
Fitting of bathroom door - £25
Total - £310
Bob Parrys applied to the DPS for the full £370. When we queried why the full amount had been applied for with Einir Williams, she could give no explanation and stated, “I don’t really know”.
On the 1st June 2010, for the sake of good relations and a speedy resolution to this situation we came down from South Yorkshire to Blaenau, which is around a 300 mile round trip, to try and sort out these problems.
We sorted the issues with the carpet, the garden and cleaned the oven (needed industrial cleaner). Please see enclosed photos. After this we rang Chris Thomas to come and inspect the property. On inspection of the work carried out he stated that he was happy that the problems had been rectified. There was only the matter of the kitchen units. We were happy to go into dispute over the £75 for the units.
We went down to the office to complete the DPS online forms. We competed our part then Einir started to make excuses and to stall when it came to do their part. She phoned Paul Cassidy and then the landlady. She stated that the landlady wasn’t available and she couldn’t complete the DPS form until she had spoken to her. By this time it was around 5pm and the office was closing so we had to return home.
A few days later we received a phone call from Einir stating that the landlady was not happy and gave us a new list of problems. These are as follows:

Rubbish removal (mattress and sawdust)£15Disagree
Cleaning of oven and sawdust£10Disagree
New doormat£10Agree
From last list; Kitchen cupboards£24Disagree
From last list; Bathroom door£25Agree
Total£84
The mattress was not rubbish, we will be claiming against landlord for return of this under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977. The old door was left by the builder after fitting the new door, we believe it was their contractors responsibility to move it. It also wasn’t on the first list and when Chris Thomas checked the house on the 1st of June he said nothing about it. Einir told us we shouldn’t have left anything there yet when we moved in there was rotting food behind the extension, the garage was full of rubbish and wood, toys dumped in the front garden etc. We removed all of this rubbish at our own expense.
Cleaning of the oven was already done and if you look at the photographs I think you’ll agree that it’s 100x better than when we moved in. Cleaning of the sawdust that the builder had left we believe was the contractors responsibility to clean it up or to have put a sheet down to catch it.
Neither was on the first list and when Chris Tomas checked the house on the 1st of June he said nothing about it.
The doormat was thrown away because it stunk of urine. Maybe we could have cleaned it but it was also in a bad state of disrepair. We agree to £10 being deducted for the doormat.
The Kitchen and bathroom have already been covered.
Thank you for reading and I hope you see them for the cowboys that they are.

Question #17:

where can I find a company that will help with house cleaning and furniture rearranging?

I have moved in with someone who has lived in this house for many years. We need to rearrange the whole house, changing one room from a living room to a bed room, a bed room to an office etc, etc.

In the process, I would like to have help with a stem to stearn cleaning.

Where do I find such a company?

Question #18:

California State Workers. Furloughs are back?!?!?

How much does Arnold want to screw the state's economy before he leaves office? I understand that in state offices, there are a lot of people who don't do anything at all, furniture more or less... however, there are so many state workers in the state, especially Sacramento, that the local businesses are being driven out of town. Is this really a smart move on Arnold's part?

Question #19:

I am shopping for a bedroom set for my 14 year old daughter. Is $3400 a lot of money or a reasonable price?

She has had the same bedroom set since she was around 7. Her bedroom definately needs new furniture, Since most of it is broken/outdated.

I am shopping at PBTeen, she told me she wanted white furniture.

My main concern is spending too much money because she will be going to college in 4 years.
The set that cost 3,400 includes:
1 Full sized bed
1 Night stand
1 Dresser
1 Desk
1 Office Chair
1 Small bookshelf
1 Full body mirror.

OR i could drop a few items,

The price would change to 2,835:
1 Full sized bed
1 Night stand
1 Dresser
1 Desk
1 Office Chair

Should i spend the extra 600 on two items? or is the furniture just too expensive in general?
I showed her pictures and she loves it,
My friends daughter has the same brand furniture and loves it.

Just wondering if i am investing too much money for 4 years.
