Question #1:
I took in a cat for a friend because it wasn't getting along with the other household animals...?
...but the cat is destroying my walls and trim. They are beautiful & was very expensive to have done, I have tried all types of things to get this cat to stop scratching them and pulling at the carpet. I bought 2 scratch poles and built a tri-level thing (& carpeted every inch of it) for the cat to jump/lay on but it will only jump on the leather furniture and wood tables. I know alot of people think de-clawing is horrible, but this seems to be the only option, short of having it put down. What should I do?Thanks Julie.
Joan of Arc, done that to no end...he just runs away & comes right back doing it again...seems out of spite!
Others, all due respect but de-clawing is legal in most countries & and the USA. Just because it's illegal in one country, it doesn't mean it right to others. It's ok in the Arabic world to beat a woman because she's talking to someone outside of her family...so should other countries follow? Just making a point.
Aleasha, thank you also.

Question #4:
What do you think about black interior doors?
My husband and I are building a custom, and I would like to paint all our doors black. The floorplan is very open, and the kitchen and living room are basically one big room, which I painted a very bright yellow. Behr's "Bicycle Yellow," to be exact. The master bedroom, for which we chose very light, airy blues, extends from the living room. Of course, there is a guest bathroom in the living room, and a master bath in our room. Three closets in the living room, one in guest bath, one in master bedroom, one in master bath. Those are basically the only rooms on the main level. I'm definitely no pro at interior design, but from pictures I have seen, black doors with white trim look very nice. I'm looking for your opinion. Keep in mind, hubby and I are both in our 20s, and my in-laws (50s-ish) have made it very clear that they do not like the idea. My husband and I, however, love the modern look. What do you think about it, Yahoo community?(EDIT: the floors are a light wood, and our living room furniture is dark brown leather. I'm kind of nervous the browns might clash with black doors :-/)

That is what gave me my idea :) The blue and yellow are extremely close to my bedroom and living room colors! Thank you for all of your sweet answers!

Question #5:
What color curtains would compliment a sea mist green wall?
The furniture is a rust leather color. Tables are oak. Someone told me red would compliment it, but I'm not too sure. I am looking into changing the curtains for the cold months ahead, and will be buying energy saver curtains.Question #6:
My Ex has all of my furniture, but won't speak to me. Should I still try to get it?
I broke up with my ex almost 4 years ago. I was in the process of moving out of state and gave him my futon, leather chair and some other items until I returned to my hometown. He agreed to hold on to them until I returned to the midwestShortly after I relocated, he and I broke up after a terrible dispute. 1 year ago, I moved back home and tried to smooth things over. He blocked me on Facebook. I learned that he had a new girlfriend and didn't want me in his life.
After a whole year, I am now financially stable enough to move out. I am moving out in a couple of days and have no funds for furniture. My friends report that he still has my stuff in his place. Is it too much to ask him to return the furniture as we originally agreed.
Question #7:
New Room Ideas Or Advice?
My sister is moving out and she's giving her room to me. But it's not really a room, it's a living room (lounge) a small bedroom and a bathroom. I am getting some new furniture from her old apartment, like two black leather couches, a flat screen TV thing, a desk, and a table. I wanted the living/lounge room to be dark, sunset orange, with red and sunny colors, with candles and a zen relaxed feeling. I will be doing homework there, and watching TV (keep in mind that the couch will be black). The problem is that the room will look too small, and there is only one window, because it's kind of in the basement, and now the room is half white and then it has like green boards. So I decided a blue color and white boards, with the black couches with a silvery throw and pillows. Soft and pretty.
And then make the bedroom the orange zen feeling. That room has no windows.
My style depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm NYC girly, Blair Waldorf style; Then I become the rocker, hippy, that wears cowboy boots, leather jackets, and band t-shirts.
Any other ideas? Or advice?
Question #8:
Turning a small 2/1 apartment into our home?
Since I got divorced and entered into single parenthood times have been tough and money is tight. We live in a small 2/1 apartment in a not so great area, but it looks like we will be here for several more years. I'm wanting to make this apartment feel like our home but I'm lost as to where to even start. My living room and kitchen are open to each other and I like the sage/olive greens, tans, and black. Really love the wine/grape theme. I have a hallway that leads to the bedrooms and bath. For his room I want to do something that's age appropriate (he's 2) but will still transition well as he gets older. I've put up a red curtain and he has a nice red leather chair in his room. As far as my bedroom I'm lost. I love the look of the dark wood furniture but past that I don't have a clue. I love everything about being a woman, but don't want it to be too feminine. Pink truly is my favorite color and I love sparkle. I've tried to turn my bathroom into a relaxing space, but it's not reading quite like I'd hoped. It's a small bathroom and I bought and put together and over the toiQuestion #9:
is it okay to get a cat?
my mom's a home decorator so naturally my house has very fancy, easily breakable furniture and decorations in several areas of my house.Plus my house is very clean. My mom almost lopped my head off once for accidently spilling hot chocolate on our white, white carpet. Afterwards she busted out the clorox.
My point is, will getting a young pet kitten seriously mess that up? Because I really like that my house is clean too. I don't want a kitty ripping the leather furniture, or pooping in corners, or chewing through wires. So plez help me out. What's the diagnoses for getting a pet kitty??
Question #10:
Cats clawing EVERYTHING.?
Before we moved, I never had an issue with my three cats clawing up the furniture. Never in the small apartment. Never in my grandmother's small house with me, my husband, grandmother and newborn little girl, the cats NEVER clawed up the furniture like they do now. They only ever clawed one chair in particular, and it wasn't a huge deal.We moved into a new house. It's larger, three bed/two bath. The living room set and dining room set is all new. The dining room chairs are leather. All of them are ruined, the cats are clawing the seats, the backs and the backs to the backs. The leather is full of holes and the one couch has holes in it from clawing. We've only been in this house for four months, therefore the furniture is only four months new. They have even taken to climbing the shelving units in the laundry room and clawing the ceiling insulation.
I clip all of the cats nails regularly. Their litter boxes are cleaned regularly. They always have food and clean water in their dish. They had no problems acclimating to the new house, so it seemed. (They seemed to like the larger space better.) We're going to put double sided tape on all of the chairs and couches, but we can't keep double sided tape on all of the dining room chairs all of the time, where will we sit to eat? Where will guests come to sit and eat? It's such an embarrassment to have guests over and serve dinner with ruined dining room furniture (my cats have NEVER clawed leather before). I've also used that No Scratch spray, doesn't seem to work too well.
If I weren't so extremely opposed to declawing, I'd have it done. I have never been so at my wits end when it came to my animals, but it has to stop. Does anyone have any ideas?
I forgot to mention, I also have a very nice cat tree for them to climb on and scratch up. I've put catnip on it to attract them and they scratch is sometimes. Not as much as the furniture...
Question #11:
Are there furniture stores in Beijing that offer western styles?
We are new to Beijing and are trying to find furniture for our house. We hope to find a leather living room set and a pillow-top mattress with box spring (preferable king size, but we know that is almost impossible). I have found a couple, but at obnoxious prices. Does anyone know of a good place to look for these? Thanks!Question #12:
Why do people say that homosexuality *isn't* a choice? Do personal experiences count for anything?
I ask this because I have a unique experience. I am a man who *chose* to be heterosexual. Based on my experiences, and the experiences of others I know, I can definitely assert that homosexuality and heterosexuality are indeed choices we make.See, my wife and I are both members of an ex-gay group; that's how we met, in fact. I can't tell you what a blessing from the Lord it is to have this woman in my life. I can only imagine what my life would have turned out to be had I not chosen to embrace my God-mandated heterosexuality.
I was always a man you would never have looked at and imagined to be anything but straight. During my teen years, however, Satan sent every temptation he could to try and ensnare me in the gay lifestyle. First, there was that sofa my mother bought; she had chosen a respectable rust coloured overstuffed one, but what was mistakenly delivered was one in rich corinthian leather. Almost immediately then the furniture store went out of business, so we were stuck with the sofa. The rich, musky smell of that leather put all sorts of polluted thoughts into my young mind.
It was about the same time that those Brawny Paper Towel commercials of the 80s started. With his "butch" clone look, I innocently thought Mr. Brawny all man, and emulated him. Frankie Goes To Hollywood was also riding high then, and all of this meant that I was on a one-way road to hell town! I was battling in my very soul, and I felt weak. It was 1984, I was a young man filled with hormones, and there was nothing on television but the lousy election coverage. I was fighting temptation to go to a gay bar and have my fill of lust. I tried to pray, and I asked God for a sign. Well, Satan must have intercepted my prayer, because, turning on the TV to try to find a Christian program, the screen instantly flashed on to Clara Peller, that little old lady from the Wendy's commercials, saying "Where's the beef?" I gave in to sin and went to the gay bar.
There followed years of immorality where I did terrible things, like wear a plaid kilt and leather vest, watch "Solid Gold" to get a glimpse of Andy Gibb's hairy chest, and record old Match Game reruns featuring Charles Nelson Riley. That last one is a shame that will haunt me my entire life. Things got so low for me that I even got a nipple piercing. I still have the piercing, but today I only wear a crucifix in it.
I thank Jesus, though, for delivering me from all of that. I met Becky at the ex-gay meeting, and we determined to embrace our heterosexuality. My marriage to Becky is the most important thing in my life, and I am really saddened to see the march of same-sex marriage threaten the sanctity of it. My marriage is a precious gift from God, and I knew it from the moment I saw Becky at the meeting, all the way through to the next morning, when we wed.
Is it always easy? No, but Becky and I are vigilant. We have taken steps to heterosexualize our home. For instance, I am no longer allowed to wear Brut cologne, because of its slogan, "the smell of a man." Becky helps me to keep a watch over things that might cause me to fall; for instance, she got our ex-gay group to intervene and talk me out of going in for that prostate exam that the doctor had scheduled for me. I can't thank her enough for looking out for me. Becky, too, has to always be on the alert for anything that might lead her astray. She has taken to wearing makeup, except for lavender eyeshadow, of course, and she is no longer allowed to go to the Home Depot, wear birkenstocks, or eat sushi. Mammograms are out of the question for her, unless performed by a male doctor. We both made the decision to ban tofu from our home.
Our support group is excellent, and it provides the majority of our social life. Becky and the ladies get together to praise God and comb each other's hair, and I get together with the men from the group, and we play tackle football. Once a month, Becky and I follow the Lord's will, and I go into her bedroom so the two of us can make heterosexual love. Our faith in God gets us through this, plus the doctor's prescription for Compazine really helps. Right now, Becky is pregnant with our little bundle of joy, and I know our home will be happy and complete when this child is born. I can't imagine a child growing up in a more perfect home.
So there you have it. My wife and I have both chosen to be heterosexual, so it stands to reason that homosexuality is likewise a choice. Why do people insist on saying that it isn't a choice, however? Do personal experiences count for nothing?
I thank Jesus every day for the happiness of the normal life that I now know.
(((((((Wayf))))))) I wish more people would read the details, lol. :)

Question #13:
What goes with white in a bedroom?
Im getting a new bedroom soon, and i bought a white leather double bed today. it's got a storage draw on the side, and the room isn't really big. but it's not tiny either. im a girl, and i want my bedroom to be a relaxing place for me after i get home from school. the walls are a really really light lavender and so i need some ideas of what colour furniture and accessories would go well. i'd like it to be a kind of light, pale pretty room. Thanks. PS: No fluro or big bold colours like dark purple or dark redQuestion #14:
Can you give me feedback on my novel?! (one page yet)?
I still remember the bold black iron bars of the gate, standing tall and towering above all beings. A cool midnight breeze brought me to my senses, and I suddenly took notice of the lad coming towards the gate. He was rather young, a junior of no more than 18, and he carried a chain of keys. The sound of a distant storm shook the earth and broke the silence. This only caused the porter to search more nervously through the keys to find the right one. The air was thick and moist, and his lantern was merely a halo in the dull grey sky, frosted with humid breath. Not a single sound was to be heard but the clinging of the rusty old keys.“Oh for god’s sake, son, get a move on...” said the loud voice of a woman coming towards us from behind. A short figure wrapped in covers, looking rather like a ball of wool, she was a woman of 40 who introduced herself as Mrs. Hamston as she pulled out a key, and pushing the boy away with her large figure, made way for herself and opened the lock, letting me in.
“Do accept my pardon, Mr. Turner! Henry was sent to us a week ago. Well, thank lord you are safe and sound. How was your journey?” said she, as she walked me along the garden towards the house. I followed her like a son following his mother, afraid of being lost in the foggy darkness.
“Glad to be settled at last, madam.” I said, looking up at the sky with inner frustration. Another roar of the clouds reminded us to keep walking in pace, and soon the icy drops of rain began to fall.
The humid atmosphere did not allow me to look around, and so I stared at my feet, and concentrated on the sound of my thick leather boots rustling on the wet pebbles. Finally, a halo of dim light caught my attention and here I lifted my head and found myself on the porch of the grand mansion; and a grand mansion it was. Its walls were tar black bricks, and the sides extended through the trees, out of sight. The stairs leading to the porch were of dark marble, paneled with wooden boards to avoid the slippery wet floor. Just then, my observations were interrupted by Mrs. Hamston, who now held the great wooden door open for me to enter.
“Come along now, Henry. Show Mr. Turner to the guestroom while I prepare the tea”; She then locked the door and walked away in her tiny steps, her skirt rustling away into the distance. As Henry went to attend to my luggage still left in the carriage, I had the instance to forget about the grandeur of the building outside, and be awed at the nevertheless luxurious interior. The floor was parquetted in rhombuses intersecting each other in different shades of rich glossy wood, covered with an antique crimson Persian carpet that ran to the foot of the grand staircase. The staircase was of rich, expensively carved oak, carpeted blood red velvet, and curved from the left side of the hall to the right, ending in a mysterious dimly lit hallway upstairs.
The door opened and a cool breeze sent me a slight shiver. Henry had my trunk and set forth, telling me with a silent look that I should follow him. I though we were headed upstairs, but instead, he led me straight ahead of the hall, and then turned towards a rather small door under the staircase. He put the trunk on the floor and started searching through his key loop again. Finally, he found the right one and turned the lock, opening the door to complete darkness. He then proceeded to an elegant table that sat outside the door next to the back door window, opened its drawer, and drew a match from a box, lighting the candle on the table. He returned to “my” room and without entering it, reached for a lantern hung on the inside wall, and lit it with the candle he had in his hand. The room was now visible with the lantern, and I stepped in, looking around. It was a large room as opposed to its tiny door, furnished with antique Victorian furniture. The floor was warmly carpeted, and there was a canopy bed on one side, a chair, a sofa, a study desk and the bathroom at the very end. There was nothing lacking, yet it felt unfamiliar to be standing among the nostalgic figures of the objects. I turned to Henry and thanked him, with the intention of asking about the electricity, but I would rather discuss that with the house keeper, and so I dismissed him. I took another look at the room, and then took off my coat and hat, and started unpacking my stuff on the bed. The closet, just like the room, was ironically spacious on the inside, whereas I thought I needed to find another place to hang the rest of my clothing. I then sat on the bed and looked around. There was much decorations and objects to see, much details to memorize. There was a painting of a lighthouse lost on the shore among the huge rocks, a painting of Scottish highlands and one of a bee farm, all aligned next to one another across the wall.
