Question #1:
What can I do to fix the monotone colors in the living room? The living room set and walls are the same color!?
My uncle gave me an almost brand new living room set (couch, love seat, and chair), but it is almost the same color as the walls in my living room. I just painted the walls and spent a lot of money, so I don't want to repaint them.I think I can make the set work in there, as long as I have some barrier between the the furniture and the walls.
I don't want to cover the couch, but I'm thinking maybe something to sit something on top of the couch, love seat, and chair. A blanket, maybe? I don't know!
Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have any suggestions? What should I do?
Thanks, Hanna...that's a great idea! Keep those ideas coming! =)
Thank you Lilan, me, and Olivia S for your suggestions!

Question #5:
Does he really mean when he says that?
One of my friends have a habit of always pursuing his friends to make them stay at his place by telling things like 'ohh you don't want to spend time with me, or you are busy people, you are not staying because I don't have good furniture etc etc and he would again make faces and say some sarcastic stuff the next time you meet him. I don't find it annoying as he does it all in a very cute way and he is a wonderful friend otherwise however it bothers me because it leaves me in a state of dilemma. I believe that you should accept your friends as they are or just leave them and from this I choose to accept him even if I have to take some extra pain to make him happy. However, my concern is that I can't understand if he really feels bad when people refuse to stay or he says this just for fun. Is there a way to find this out?Question #6:
Australians: Are we all happy to know that the Dept of Defense has spent $1.8 billion on luxury items such as?
works of art, designer office furniture, Rugby trips and Private Lear jet travel....when the widows and children of the fallen soldiers are left to eke out an existence on sole parent pensions and those returned servicemen who are suffering severe physical and psychological trauma due to their experiences cannot access decent medical care or counseling services?Click Here
Ought the Department Head and the Minister be called to account for this travesty?
Will the beneficiaries of this largess be made to repay the Australian taxpayers and relinquish their privileged positions to someone more honest and honourable?
I am particularly keen to hear from current or former service personnel on this issue...and to know what essentials you go without day to day when you are risking your lives in the service of your country.
Question #7:
Should 'No Loitering' Apply to all ages?
I've noticed that the elderly are allowed to loiter no matter where or when. You step into the mall and there's the same group of people in about their 60's sitting on a bench, no bags or anything, just sitting for 2 or 3 hours chatting. When I sit down, even by myself with a shopping bag in my hand I'm asked to exit the mall. They even sit on the display patio furniture which isn't allowed regardless. One of the reasons I'm asking this is because in my dads store, that I also work in, has a couch around the entertainment section, mainly for looks or for shoppers who are taking a break. Sometimes the elderly people will just come in and think they can chill and watch TV. When I ask them if they need a hand and they say "No dear, we're just sitting" I'll say "well I'll have to ask you to go then, we don't allow loitering in here" and I always get the same jibber jabber "You should respect your elders, if I want to come into a store and sit down I should be allowed - blah blah blah" to which I simply say "I don't care if you're 8 or 88 - no loitering, find a new hangout, thanks".
I mean, I find it pathetic that an 18 year old can't step into a mall, do some shopping and then sit on the bench for a second (I thought the benches were for shoppers anyway) without getting kicked out, and elderly can come sit down all effing day. What do you think ?
Oh, I don't try to get them kicked out - in case you missed it - I do the kicking out myself :)
Question #8:
Yahoo advert Adopt an Orang-utan...My mrs would go mad with me if i brought one of them home?
Have any of you actually done this?? Do they climb all over your furniture and stuff???Question #9:
Boundaries for 17 month old - how to stop climbing on table?
I was told by our child care nurse months ago that I should be teaching my son boundaries - stop him climbing too high on furniture etc.It just became a problem now as he has learnt to climb on our dining chairs. I thought he might be old enough to learn from natural consequences so let him go until he fell off the chair and cried. He was not injured but he was shocked and probably it hurt a bit. I thought it might teach him a lesson and he'd stay away from the chairs but next thing I know... well I'm sure you can guess!
To be honest I do not mind him climbing on the chairs when I am sitting next to him. I figure one day soon he will be able to manage sitting on the dining chairs without being in any danger and soon enough he'll be old enough to eat dinner sitting on those chairs so there's no real point telling him he's not allowed. Trouble is, he uses the chairs as a way to climb on the table, and that is really not appropriate.
Of course, I try saying no, and pulling him down, but it's exhausting. We have open plan living so here is no closing the door on the dining chairs or table. He can get up whenever he likes.
My husband thinks we should stop him getting up on the chairs, but I disagree. Chairs are fine, we all sit on chairs. But when he climbs up on the table and I tell him "no" he just ignores me. I pull him off and he'll climb up again.
So for him to learn do we need to get him off the table every time? My friend used to like sitting him on the table while she held him. Is it ok to let him up on the table when we are holding him, or does he need to learn the table is not to sit/stand on ever in order for it to get through to him?
I hope I'm clear here - I feel like I'm making no sense! I'm a novice at discipline and really need to work out what kids need in order to best learn their boundaries. Is it ok to say "you can do this when we are with you but not when we aren't" or is that too confusing for a small child?
I hope someone can understand me and offer some good advice. I'm all about positive parenting no smacking thanks!
Question #10:
How long after your baby started taking steps, did they start walking full on.?
My daughter has just started walking between pieces of furniture, taking between 6-10 steps at a time. How long after YOUR baby started doing this did they walk as an everyday thing, like completely cut out crawling.I know all babies are different blah, blah, blah.
Question #11:
How to get my dog to rest?
I have a male, four-year-old, 90 pound Rottweiler/Pit bull named Mozart. He's very active and buff, and he totally lives and breathes exercise. He's been limping off and on for a while, and the whole "wait and see" thing we were advised to do didn't work out. I took him to the vet, and it turns out that he partially tore his ACL (knee ligament) when he tripped on my friend's stairs. Aside from occasional limping, he's been acting very normal and active, and seems to be in no pain at all.He was prescribed anti-inflammatory dog treats to help with the tear. If he completely tears his ACL, it'll require very, very, expensive surgery, which my parents can ill afford after all the veterinary incidents in the past few months that have completely drained what was once an impressive veterinarian fund.
So, the real problem is that he can't be walked for a full month. Mozart is so high-energy that I usually give him daily walks of no less than five miles. He's usually mellow indoors, but, if he even misses one day's walk, he starts to get very stir-crazy. This usually results in him crazily running through the house, chasing his tail, jumping over furniture and digging holes in the garden. It's only been four days since the vet told me to keep him on bed rest for a whole month, and he's already probably run a few miles worth of laps through my house. He chased his tail so much that he got dizzy and fell down, and he's throwing his toys (with his mouth) and jumping up in the air to catch them.
He's completely insane, and I'm worried.
My parents and I are very worried that our psycho dog will wreck his leg, and there won't be one thing we can do about it. So, basically, I want to find some way to get Mr. Crazy-pants to cool his jets for a while. Is crating a good option? And is sedation humane, or does it deprive him of his free will? Any other possibilities would be very appreciated, but just hoping he'll wear out isn't working, not that it ever does.
Question #12:
What color should I paint my bed room?
My room is really hot, what color will make it "cooler", my walls are white and my furniture like light wood (sorry my english is not that good)Question #13:
Is it cruel to leave a pet rock with no home?
My pet rock Bubbles has clothes and gets bathed and played with, but has no house. She used to, but the cleaners always muck up the placement. It takes ages arranging it again and its really hard. The doors need to be lined up, rugs need to be arranged, furniture put in place etc.Bubbles will still have love but no home. Is this cruel?Question #14:
a question for INTERIOR DESIGNERS.?
I'm an interior designer, i just finished and graduated school and im getting a lot of clients that want me to do there places. There's a girl thats having a baby and she wants me to help her with re-arranging her furniture for her nursery, should I charge her for that? Also I'm getting a lot of clients that live far away, as in I would have to fly there or something and I dont have a car yet. So if they wanted me to do there bedroom or living room or something should I charge them? I would offer them, floorplans/ perspectives, image board, and the places to go to get that stuff, since I'm unable too. I also feel like it's not the same experience as if I was actually there, and they have to go out on there own and buy the stuff.
Last but not least, what do you do when you have a client and the client keeps asking where im getting all these cool furniture and stuff (image board), in other words, they want to know the price and get it on there own and not pay me and know my sources. How would I get around that?
Question #15:
What does my dream mean? I'm so confused?
Last night I had a dream that I was in a house with ugly, pea green walls. The paint was chipped and I was in the smallest bedroom. Suprisingly, there was no furniture, and the windows were all grimy and smudged. Suddenly fire began to burn in the center of the room and it spread along the walls, making the color a gritty black. I had this overwhelming feeling that I needed to get out, but when I tried to open the door, it was locked. Something dripped on my shoulder from above, and looking up I saw the body of a cute guy I know (I'm pretty sure it was Apolo Ohno, who I admire and like a lot) stapled and nailed to the ceiling. He was wearing a business suit and a white shirt, and blood was everywhere. His arms and legs appeared to be stretched out by two blocks of wood. Frantically, I found a hammer and proceeded to smash my way out of the room, just to come face to face with an unknown brother and sister doing the same thing as me, except with a plastic comb, similar to my own. I tried to help them, but they didn't notice me. Then they just faded into thin air. I opened the door they were trying to hammer though and saw the body of the guy (Apolo Ohno, for sure this time) that was just on the ceiling. This time, though, he was alive, and the room was sunny, bright, and vividly colored.Any ideas?
Question #16:
What to do if Humane Society won't accept my dog?
I have a 1-year old dog (border collie, bulldog mix) that is very affectionate and basically a good dog. She is also, though, very protective and aggressive to strangers which is good and bad at the same time... One problem she has is that she eats everything.. I mean everything. Clothes, kids toys, deck furniture, cushions and anything else she can get her mouth on (ever seen Marly and Me?). That's annoying, but we can deal with that sort of behavior. The real problem is that she has begun showing aggression toward my daughters (3 and 5) which is not something my wife or I are willing to deal with. My older daughter was unexpectedly attacked by our family dog when she was 2 - he was a great dog we'd owned for years, and other than some food aggression never showed any signs... but one day... my daughter was very luck I was standing there when it happened... we had to have him put down and it was devastating. We vowed never to have something like that happen again. The problem is that the Humane Society may not take her. What do I do if that happens? We can't keep her, but if the HS won't take her in, what other choice do I have? I don't want to force her to stay locked in the bathroom/deck or chained up in the backyard -- I love and respect dogs too much for that sort of horrible treatment... Any advice would be most welcome!
Question #17:
how to paint composite wood?
I own black-finish furniture. I've been searching for a storage cabinet under $70 with a similar dark finish but have been unable to do so - and a storage cabinet that would completely fit my needs has shown up at Wal-Mart, on sale for 40% off. However, it is a light oak finish.
How can I paint this composite wood to give it a faux black wood finish? I want the faux grain appearance and I know I won't get it if I just bought black paint and painted it with a normal paintbrush.
Here is the product -

I'm not sure this would be strong enough to handle sanding....
Question #18:
Can someone tell me why mosaic furniture and decor is so expensive?
I just don't understand. I know that its time consuming, but the pieces are not very expensive if you go to the right places. I think that people charge way too much for this kind of art and i was wondering why. Has anyone ever done this and is it easy? If so, id like to save some money and do it myself. Thanks :)Question #19:
A family issue that is bothering me, what do you all think?
So I have been married to this guy for about 3 years, we are both Phd students in science so we have a great future ahead of us, his family as so great to me, they have never ever done me wrong, same with my family toward him.Now my issue is here, I come from a pretty wealthy family, my dad is a Medical Doctor, very famous, and my mother is a buisiness woman also very successful. Now his family are pretty average to poor, his mother works at a furniture factory and his dad is basically a garbage man, he rides on those garbage dumpsters and cleans up the garbage and such. Neither of his parents finished highschool...
Now I am by no means ashamed of them, I love them as if they were my own parents, but I am always worried that my parents will find out, my parents are shallow or anything but let us be honest here, that is a HUGE family difference.
I am not sure if i even should tell them, act like I did not know if they find out... Not really sure if this is an issue to start with ....
Sorry I meant to say my parents are not shallow or anything like that ...
